Avoiding a Credit Card Surcharge

My friend didn’t bring any cash to a week long writer’s workshop in Oceanside, Oregon. The town coffee shop had to charge a one dollar fee for credit card purchases less than twenty dollars. Not wanting to pay an extra dollar for every coffee, my friend asked to purchase a $20 gift certificate which she knew would cover her coffee needs while in town. They were happy to provide her with the gift certificate, and she probably saved about five to ten dollars by being savvy with her money.
