Smiles, Chuckles, Etc.

Student A: Does A.D. stand for after dinosaurs?

Teacher (knows Student A is joking): Of course it does. It makes sense doesn’t it? Everything that happened after the dinosaurs roamed the Earth?

Student B smiles and says: Sarcasm.

Student A: I almost believed you.

Some of my students went on a field trip to the Smith Center, I believe to see the Las Vegas Philharmonic. This brought out the imaginations of my students. They were even thinking of similes again, like this one…

Playing the flute is like sniffing a hot dog with romantic eyes.

I have a student who has a fabulous, off the wall sense of humor. So I finally asked him if we could do something where he takes all the funny ideas he has and puts together one performance per month rather than little bits here and there. He’s interested. So interested, he wants to draw up a contract. We’ll see how this goes…

Keeping up on goals for the new year. I finished all the volunteer processing paperwork and meetings with the Red Cross. I attended a public affairs team meeting on Monday and will shadow the public affairs director at an upcoming event. I think there are going to be more opportunities than I had imagined to work on writing, learn new skills, and discover more about what the Red Cross does for the community.
