Tuesdays through Fridays I am in the path of kids heading to class in the morning. At the beginning of the school year, my good morning greetings were often ignored. Only a few kids would make eye contact and return the greeting. Many kids focused on the ground or straight ahead like I wasn’t there. It was kind of weird, but I kept on with the good mornings.
As the year went on, more kids started making eye contact and returning the greeting. This helped me to add on things like:
How are you doing?
I love the colors you are wearing today.
You look so happy.
Oh my gosh, you are twins, I never knew!
I love seeing your smile in the mornings.
A few weeks ago, I noticed a sudden change. Before I could say good morning, some kids were saying good morning to me first. It was such a surprise and made me feel so happy.
Good mornings are definitely trending at my schools, along with smiles, eye contact, and a little bit of chitchat too.
