LeeLoo and I went bike riding on part of the Flamingo Arroyo Trail. It is a contrast of desert sands, flowing water, rocky mountains and views of iconic Vegas hotels. We saw ducks, some sort of sandpipers, quite a few bike riders and a solar panel field. It was amazing to be out there on such a perfect weather day. I have to admit though, the Sunrise trailhead was a bit sketchy. There weren’t many people around, I didn’t see any signs and large craters were developing in the dirt parking lot. What was quite discouraging was the amount of trash and graffiti you could see in the desert and the wash. It reminds me that I’ve been slacking when it comes to volunteering to help clean up our outdoor treasures. Luckily, Get Outdoors Nevada has a monthly newsletter with all sorts of volunteer opportunities posted.
I also went to Star Nursery with my parents to help them pick up ten bags of soil and vegetable plants. My mom sent me pictures of what she planted. Her freestanding vegetable garden is so cute and sure to be bountiful. Here’s a list of what she has planted so far: Roma Tomato, Celebrity Tomato, Early Girl Tomato, Hawaiian Tomato, Rainbow Swiss Chard, Red Russian Kale, Yellow Sweet Spanish Onions, Joi Choy Asian Greens and Sweet Red & Green Peppers.
